THE PUREST FORM
The Fiat G.55 Centauro represented the pinnacle of Italian figher plane design in World War II. Fielding two Breda-SAFAT machine guns and three MG 151/20 cannons, one of which was fired through the prop hub, the Centauro was fast, nimble and hard hitting. Evaluated by the Luftwaffe High Command agaisnt the FW-190 as well as the Bf-109, it achieved an evaluation rating as "excellent." As such, it was slated for production in Germany for service with the German Air Force. One officer went to far as to claim it the best figher in the Axis stable.
