THE FINAL KILL
April 24, 1945. Oberfeldwebel Walter Loos of Stab. JG 301 claims aerial victories against a pair of Soviet Yak-9s over Berlin while flying the Focke-Wulf Ta-152 high altitude fighter. Designed by Kurt Tank, the creator of the legendary FW-190 series, the new high altitude fighter appeared very late in the war but boasted tremendous improvements in speed, flight capability and armament over previous Focke-Wulf aircraft. Its JuMo 213E engine made it capable of speeds approaching 472mph, and its one 30mm and two 20mm cannon gave it devastating firepower against the heaviest enemy bombers.
